Beskrivning

Climate policy is a complex area that requires input from many different perspectives. The SNS Economic Policy Council 2020 comprises nine researchers from a range of disciplines, with different backgrounds and with varied opinions on the debate surrounding climate policy.
They analyse Swedish climate policy in a global context, describing the causes and consequences of climate change and focusing on how policy can achieve the desired reductions in carbon emissions. The report also provides answers to questions that are frequently discussed in the Swedish debate, such as the effectiveness of climate aid and whether Sweden should generate a larger surplus of fossil-free electricity for export.

The members of the SNS Economic Policy Council 2020 are John Hassler (chair), Björn Carlén, Jonas Eli-asson, Filip Johnsson, Per Krusell, Therese Lindahl, Jonas Nycander, Åsa Romson, and Thomas Sterner.

Författare

John Hassler

John Hassler (chair) is professor of economics at the Institute for International Economic Studies at Stockholm University. His research concerns public finances, social mobility, growth, and climate change. In 2013-2016, he was chair of the Swedish Fiscal Policy Council. In 2009-2018 and from 2020 he is a member of the Prize Committee for the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. He is a board member of the Stockholm Resilience Center. He is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences.

Björn Carlén

Björn Carlén has a PhD in economics and is a researcher at the Environmental Economics unit of the National Institute of Economic Research.

Jonas Eliasson

Jonas Eliasson is a visiting professor in transport systems at Linköping University and was recently appointed accessibility director at the Swedish Transport Administration.

Filip Johnsson

Filip Johnsson has been professor of sustainable energy systems at Chalmers University of Technology since 2003.

Per Krusell

Per Krusell is professor of economics at the Institute for International Economic Studies at Stockholm University, where he has worked since 2008, after more than twenty years in the US.

Therese Lindahl

Therese Lindahl has a PhD in economics and is a researcher and program leader at the Beijer Institute of Ecological Economics.

Jonas Nycander

Jonas Nycander is professor of geophysical hydrodynamics at the Department of Meteorology at Stockholm University.

Åsa Romson

Åsa Romson is a doctor of laws and a researcher in environmental law and environmental policy at IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, focusing on climate law and environmental policy instruments. She has 15 years of experience of environmental politics at local and national levels and was Minister of the Environment in 2014-2016.

Thomas Sterner

Thomas Sterner is professor of environmental economics at the University of Gothenburg.
